AN ORDINANCE FOR THE ADOPTION BY REFi~RENCE OF TI-IE
"SOUTHERtI STANDARD HOUSING CODE, 1976 EDITION°',
FOR THE CITY OF WEST MEMPHIB, ARKA,VSAS, AND FOR
OTHER PURPOSES.
BE IT HEREBY ORDAIidED BY THE CITY COUTTCIL OF TIIE CITY
OF WEST MEMPHIS, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. Section 1 of Ordinance 110. 796 dated
February 21, 1974, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"There is hereby adopted by the City Council of the City of
West Memphis, Arkansas, pursuant to Arkansas Statute § 192421,
which allows adoption of Technical Codes by reference, the
"Southern Standard 1-sousing Code, 1976 Edition, and 1977
Pevisions and 1978 Revisions", for the City of West Memphis,
Arkansas, of which not less than three (3) copies shall be
filed in the office of the Clerlc of the City of palest P~IeMphis,
Arkansas, and same are adopted and incorporated as fully as
if set out at length herein and from the date on which. this
Ordinance shall take effect, the provisions thereof shall be
controlling within the City Limits of the City of West Memphis,
Arkansas."
Section 2. It shall be the duty of_ the Building Inspector
of the City of West rlemphis, Arkansas, to see that tl~iis Code
is enforced.
Section 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in
conflict with this Ordinance are repealed.
Section 4. Any person, firm, association, or corporation
who shall violate any of the provisions of this Code or fail
to comply substantially therewith, or who shall violate or fail
to comply substantially with any order or regulation made

thereunder, or who shall build in vi-olation of any detailed
statement or specification or plans su'~mitted and approved
thereunder, or any certificate or Hermit issued tl~.ereunder,

shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof
shall be fined not more than Twenty-five and No/100ths Dollars
($25.00) for any one specified offense or violation of this
Code, or double that amount for each repetition of such
offense or violation. If a thing prohibited or rendered
unlawful is in its nature continuous in respect to time, the
fine or penalty for allowing the continuance thereof, in
violation of this Code shall not exceed Fifteen and No/100ths
Dollars ($15.00) for each day that the same may be
unlawfully continued.
