Dated this 2nd day of June, 2017. CITY OFWEST`MEMPHIS, ARKANSAS BY:'PatriciaLane Jr, Deputy City Clerk TRANSPORTATEON SERVICELL TO PROVIDE A SAFE AND MORE PROFESSIONAL ALTERNATIVE ENVORONMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR SEEN@OR CUTOZENS UN OUR LOCAL June 1, 2017 In accordance with Carnegie Mellon University study, the fatality rate for drivers 85 and over is four times higher than it is for teenagers, who are usually pegged as our most reckless drivers. One example, George Weller from California crashed into a farmers'market crowd, killing ten people because he confused the gas and brake pedals, George Weller passed written and visual tests,He did not fall asleep at the wheel, had not been drinking,or taking strong medications. Researchers suggest that the reason for this was because of complex processing skills, not actual sight or hearing difficulties, which is the root cause of dangerous driving. The American Automobile Association, Inc.and AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, list a few facts about senior drivers: ❖ Fifty percent of the middle-aged population and eighty percent of people in their 70's suffer from arthritis, crippling inflammation of the joints, which makes turning, flexing and twisting painful. Weaker muscles, reduced flexibility and limited-range of motion restrict senior drivers'ability to grip and turn the steering wheel, press the accelerator or brake, or reach to open doors and windows. ❖ Since older drivers are more fragile, their fatality rates are seventeen times higher than those twenty-five to sixty-four years old. ❖ In 2014, nearly 5,709 senior drivers were killed and 221,000 were injured in traffic crashes. Transportation is key worry for our seniors of West Memphis, AR. and D&L Transportation Service is designed to help them get around. D&L Transportation Services is essential to:help our elder people get around in their communities, and this is increasingly important as our oldest age segments grow, By the year 2030, it is projected that 8.7 million Americans will be age eighty-five and over, and a substantial portion of them will no longer drive. What D&L Transportation Service can provide for our seniors in West Memphis is a safe environment while taking care of various doctor appointments with an escort, social events such as Southland Gaming Park,Bingo games, gospel concerts and running errands including grocery shopping, etc. We will establish a more personal relationship with our seniors of West Memphis Arkansas. More time and consideration is likely to be all that is required to keep older individuals involved in their environment. We are equipped to work with debit and credit cards that may deter cash-hunger robbers, Fire extinguisher installed while providing a smoke free environment/first aid kits installed in case of an accidental emergency and currently working on installing a video camera for various reasons. D&L Transportation Service is equipped to hold a capacity of 5 passengers age sixty-five and older. Reservations should be scheduled five hours in advance for services rendered out of the West Memphis area. Operational hours are from Wednesday-Saturday(24hrs) t I am aware of public transportation here in West Memphis, such as the bus or taxi cab,but seniors do not want to walk to a bus stop and stand outside in fear of dangerous unforeseen situations. Public transportation does have F
