A N ORDINANC E TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO . ~~
OF THE CITY OF WEST MEMPHIS, ARKANSAS; ES~
TABLISHING THE NUMBER OF POLICEMEN .AUTHO-
RIZED FOR THE CITY OF WEST MEMPHIS, ARKANSAS;
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WEST MEMPHIS, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. Section 1 of Ordinance No.~of the City of West
Memphis, Arkansas, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sectio.n 1. That the West Memphis Police Department shall be
authorized to commission not more than 69 Police Officers for the City of
West Memphis, the same shall be under the general superintendence of the
Mayor of the City of West Memphis. "
Section 2. All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict here-
with are hereby repealed.
Section 3. It being determined that the enforcement of the laws of
the State of Arkansas and the City of West Memphis require additional Police
Officers under the general superintendence of .the Mayor of the City of West
Memphis, in the interest of the health, safety and welfare of said City an
emergency is hereby declared to exist, a.nd this Ordinance shall be in full
force and effect from a,nd after its approval.
ADOPTED this 15 y of July 1971.
