A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE MAYOR TO APPOINT A
COMMITTEE TO CREATE A 2018 PLAN THAT ESTABLISHES A
SUMMER JOBS PROGRAM FOR THE YOUTH OF WEST MEMPHIS,
ARKANSAS
WHEREAS, the West Memphis City Council believes such a program will help to detour youth
from criminal activities and serves as an alternative to crime. Youth summer jobs have been
proving to help reduce youth crime in many other cities,
WHEREAS, the West Memphis City Council believes this program will teach leadership,
responsibilty,positive work ethic that will instill a since of pride of giving back to this
community,
WHEREAS,the West Memphis City Council believes such a program will provide youths the
opportunity to help provide for their families and themselves financially,
WHEREAS,the West Memphis City Council believes such a program would contribute to the
cleaning and beautification of the city, as well as help to create a standard in our communtiy,
WHEREAS, the West Memphis City Council believe patnering with other West Memphis city
departments, West Memphis School District,Keep West Memphis Beautiful, Disportionate
Minority Contact, local businessess, non profit organizations and our church community will
make this plan effective, also openening opportunities for other funding sources and possibly
using Public Service portion of the Community Development Block Grant,
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WEST MEMPHIS,ARKANSAS,THAT, a summer youth jobs program plan is
created by a Committee Appointed By The Mayor to present to the West Memphis City
Council in time for the 2018 Community Development Block Grant Hearings and for other
purposes in the best interest of our youth.
