AN ORDINANCE CALLING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO FILL THE VACANCY
IN THE OFFICE OF MAYOR IN THE CITY OF WEST MEMPHIS, ARKANSAS
AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
1~HEREAS, there is a vacancy in the office of Mayor of the City
of West Memphis, Arkansas caused by the death of Howell B. Price,
the term of which office expires on the 31st day of December,
1963 and,
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the citizens of West
Memphis, Arkansas that such vacancy be filled without delay, and,
WHEREAS the laws of the State of Arkansas provide that such
vacancy be filled by special election and that such special
election be called by the City Council
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WEST MEMPHIS, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. There shall be a special election in the City of
West Memphis, Arkansas, on the 20th day of February, 1963, to
fill the vacancy in the office of Mayor, at which election there
shall be elected a Mayor to serve out the unexpired term.
Section 2. Notice of such election shall be published and posted
in the manner and at the time required by law.
Section 3. The precincts and polling places for such election
shall be those designated at the last general election.
Section 4. This ordinance being necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public peace, health, safety and welfare
