A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE WILLINGNESS OF THE CITY OF WEST
MEMPHIS TO ADOPT AND APPROVE THE DEVELOPMENT OF
UNITED STATES BIKE ROUTE 80 (USBR 80)WITHIN THE CITY OF WEST MEMPHIS
WHEREAS,bicycle tourism is a growing industry in North America that contributes to
the economy of communities that provide facilities for such tourists;and
WHEREAS, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials
(AASHTO) has designated a corridor crossing in ARKANSAS to be developed as United States
Bike Route 80 (USBR 80),and
WHEREAS, the City of West Memphis and Adventure Cycling Association, and other
stakeholders, have proposed a specific route to be designated as USBR 80, a map of which are
herein incorporated into this resolution by reference,and
WHEREAS,the proposed route for USBR 80 comes through the City of West Memphis
and can therefore provide benefits to our residents and businesses, and
WHEREAS we have reviewed the proposed route and found it to be suitable, and desire
that the route be designated so that it can be mapped and signed, thereby promoting bicycle
tourism in our area,
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WEST MEMPHIS,ARKANSAS:
Hereby expresses its approval and support for the development of USBR 80, and requests
that the appropriate officials ensure that the route is officially approved by AASHTO as soon as
this can be achieved, and authorizes the posting of signs within the City of West Memphis right-
of-way identifying the route through the community once the official designation has been
approved. //
