A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE PUBLIC WORKS
COMMITTEE TO BORROW $60,000 FROM THE STREET DEPARTMENT FOR THE
STREET AND DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT PLANNED IN THE SHADY
GROVE COMMUNITY, AND TO REPAY THE MONEY TO THE STREET DEPARTMENT
WHEN THE 2006-2007 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT MONEY
BECOMES AVAILABLE
WHEREAS, the West Memphis City Council voted in 2004 to allocate funding from
the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) money to perform street and drainage
improvements in the Shady Grove community; and
WHEREAS, $170,000 was set aside from the 2004 CDBG funding and $230,000
was set aside from the 2005 funding; and
WHEREAS, the engineering fee for the project is estimated to be $48,600, leaving
$351,400 for the recommended improvements in the Shady Grove community; and
WHEREAS, bids were opened for the project at the July 7, 2005 City Council
meeting; and
WHEREAS, only one bid was received from APAC-TN in the amount of $412,151,
resulting in a shortage of funds to complete the entire project in the amount of $60,751;
and
WHEREAS, the Public Works Committee voted at its July 14, 2005, meeting to
recommend to the City Council of the City of West Memphis to approve borrowing
$60,000 from the Street Department in order to accomplish all the planned improvements
in the Shady Grove community; and
WHEREAS, the Public Works Committee further recommends repaying the above
mentioned $60,000 to the Street Department when the 2006-2007 CDBG funding
becomes available.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WEST MEMPHIS, ARKANSAS, that $60,000 shall be borrowed from the Street
Department account to accomplish the planned improvements in the Shady Grove
community; and said $60,000 shall be repaid to the Street Department when the 2006-
2007 Community Development Block Grant monies become available.
