A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING "BLACK HISTORY MONTH" AND
THE CONTRIBUTIONS AFRICAN-AMERICANS MADE TO THIS
COUNTRY.
WHEREAS, February is recognized as Black History Month; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to recognize the contributions African-Americans
made to this country;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WEST MEMPHIS, ARKANSAS, THAT:
Section 1. In this great history we would like to give special mention to three great
African-American leaders: Rosa Parks, who spearheaded the civil rights movement, Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr., who organized thousands of men and women of all racial groups during the civil
rights era, and Messenger Elijah Muhammad, who taught self-determination and self-pride to
African-Americans. Although special mention was given to a few, we know, understand and
respect the many contributions African-Americans have made to this country in every walk of life.
