Please note that in the list there is no estimate for telephone bills for 1959. The omission of the telephone bill was an error made by me in my compiling the budget request due to my inexperience in preparing such papers, and my error has placed the department in the embarrasing position of having exhausted its funds for "Office Expense" without having purlchased the necessary supplies needed to keep the regular police business. The telephone bill has amounted to about $120.00 per month, for the past six months. I request that some consideration be given to reviewing our budget appropriation for Police Office Expense and an additional $1,600.00 be allocated so that we might go on and order items such as bail bond forms, receipts, arrest reports, etc., which we greatly need. After discussion, President Pro Tempore Ray advised the Committee to meet with the City Attorney and prepare an ordinance as outlined in their proposal to be presented to the Council at a later date. Mr. Mallot was informed the Council had been unable to do anything about the matter inasmuch as the Marion School District must vote that the Avondale Gardens area be detached fmm their District.
