..,. WHEREAS, Mr. Robert "Bob" Bentley was first elected
to the West Memphis City Council in 1968 and served for
eight (8) years, through 1976; and,
WHEREAS, during this previous eight (8) years that
Mr. Bentley served on the West Memphis City Council he
was instrumental in obtaining the aid of the Federal
Government in the construction of the widening and
improvement of the road from Broadway to Hulbert, which
is now South Avalon Street; and,
WHEREAS, during this first period of ei ht (8)
g years
that Mr. Bentley was on the City Council he served on
both the Fire Commission and the Police Commission and
instituted many innovative ideas for both Departments;
and,
WHEREAS, during his term, Mr. Bentley convinced the
City Council to purchase property in the Rainer Subdivision
to develop a park which is now located at Rice and
Vanderbilt Streets, consisting of a playground and tennis
courts; and,
WHEREAS, the computer system in the West Memphis
~ Utility Department and many other constructive procedures
were a direct result of Mr. Bentley's efforts; and,

City Council in 1980 and served for another two (2) years,
and during that time, Mr. Bentley devoted his talents and
efforts toward the Act Nine (9) Committee which purpose was
to acquire industry, anal for a time was Chairman of the
Committee; and,
WHEREAS, during the latter two (2) year period Mr. Bentley
served on the City Council, the City of West Memphis acquired
more industry than for the same time in all previous years
put together;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WEST MEMPHIS, ARKANSAS:
That the City Council will greatly miss the services of
Mr. Robert "Bob" Bentley for the contributions he has made to
the City of West Memphis during the many years he served as
a Member of the West Memphis City Council.
