WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of West Memphis,
Arkansas, has learned that Sergeant Houston Thomas has
retired from the West Memphis Police Department because of
disability on August 31, 1983; and,
~, WHEREAS, Sergeant Thomas has been employed by the
West Memphis Police Department since October 17, 1965, and
has performed his duties in an excellent manner and is
known for his courtesy, politeness and attention to duty;
and,
WHEREAS, Sergeant Thomas, during the time he worked
for the West Memphis Police Department attained the rank
of Sergeant for his devotion, duty and performance on
the job; and,
WHEREAS, for the past six (6) years, Sergeant Thomas
has performed the duties of jailer and has earned an
outstanding record for performance of that duty; and,
WHEREAS, Sergeant Thomas not only performed well with
the Police Department, but performed well for his Country,
having served in World War II for a period of three (3)
years and six (6) months; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of West Memphis
regrets losing the services of Sergeant Thomas;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of West Memphis, Arkansas, wishes to commend Sergeant
Houston Thomas for his outstanding record as a member of
the West Memphis Police Department for the last eighteen (18)
years and wishes him the best luck ever in any new duties
which he undertakes in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution
be sent to:

N O T I C E
Notice is hereby given that the City Council to the City
of West Memphis, Arkansas, will on the ~ day of October,
1983, at 1:30 P.M. at the City Hall in the City of West Memphis,
Arkansas, hear a Petition filed by James R. Pugh and Vernon D.
Turk, Jr. to vacate a utility easement more particularly
described as follows, to-wit:
The West 75 feet of the South Half of Lot 8
in Block 7 of the Compress Subdivision in the
City of West Memphis, Crittenden County,
Arkansas.
That said utility easements are located on lands owned
by James R. Pugh and Vernon D. Turk, Jr.,
All person are accordingly notified that on the date and
at the place and at the time named, the City Council of the
City of West Memphis, will hear and determine whether the said
utility easement will be vacated.
