A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WEST MEMPHIS, ARKANSAS COMMENDING THOSE PERSONS,
GROUPS, AND COMPANIES ASSISTING IN THE CONSTRUCTION
AND PLACEMENT OF THE WEST MEMPHIS SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
BLUE DEVIL BASKETBALL TEAM, 1980 STATE OVERALL BASKET-
BALL CHAMPIONS.
WHEREAS, the West Memphis Blue Devil Basketball Team was named
1980 State Gverall Basketball Champions by virtue of
their perfect 30-0 season; and,
WHEREAS, a sign commer~orating this event has been placed at a
site visible to local residents as well as visitors;
and,
WHEREAS, the Honorable Joyce T. Ferguson, Mayor of the City of
West Memphis did conceive the idea of constructing and
placing. a sign to serve as a lasting tribute to the
team; and,
WHEREAS, Gary G. Pospisil, Sr. did design the sign, supervise
the placement of the sign, and coordinate the activities
of the various persons, groups, departments and agencies
involved during the construction and placement of the
sign; and,
WHEREAS, the Advertising and Promotions Committee did supply the
necessary funds for the construction of the sign; and,
WHEREAS, Earl Haycraft of Tri-State Welding and Machine Works, Inc.
did contribute materials, labor, and expertise in steel
design; and,
WHEREAS, the West Memphis Senior High School welding and drafting
instructors and students did provide their services in
the construction of the sign; and,
WHEREAS, Guaranty Loan and Real Estate Company did agree to provide a
site to place the sign; and,
WHEREAS, many City of West Memphis personnel did contribute their
time and expertise in the sign project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WEST MEMPHIS, ARKANSAS, THAT:
1. The above mentioned persons, groups, and companies
are hereby commended for their devotion to the City
of West Memphis and to the spirit of the West Memphis
Senior High School Blue Devil Basketball Team; and
2. The above mentioned persons, groups, and companies
are hereby commended for their excellent work and
dedication in the construction and placement of the
commemorative sign.

WHEREAS, Ptr. James Bledsoe has served faithfully
and diligently on the West Memphis Utility Commission since
his appointment in 1977 for a three year term; and,
WHEREAS, the loyalty, devotion to duty, and public
pride in our city reflects to a high degree the caliber of
people who are appointed to serve on committees and
commissions; and,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WEST MEMPHIS, ARKANSAS:
1. Commends the outstanding job performed by Mr.
James Bledsoe while serving as a Commissioner on the
Utility Commission.
2. That a copy of this Resolution be presented to
Mr. Bledsoe showing our appreciation for a job well done.
