0895-~ F ~' RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF WEST MEMPHIS ARKANSAS ~~ PREFACE SUBJECT: SPONSORED BY: HOUSING FOR THE ELDERLY Alderman Alderman Mayor DATE OF COUNCIL MINUTES PASSED: ~^ ~ '~ MONTH DAY YEAR ,~ ~~~~ `w~'= S ,~ ~ t~~ t~"~ -- `~r"u` RESOLUTION N0. 895 HOUSING FOR ELDERLY WHEREAS, the West Memphis City Council passed on the 17th day of June, 1982, Resolution No. 889, recommending that HUD assist in providing Housing for the Elderly in the City of West Memphis, Arkansas; and, WHEREAS, since that time, plans have been made that an area of the City of West Memphis known as Forrest Park Apartments, located at Avalon Street and Ross Avenue, West Memphis, Arkansas, be designated as one of the sites for Housing of the Elderly; and, WHEREAS, the proposed site for Housing foY• the Elderly known as Forrest Park Apartments is objectionable to 99% of the people living in the area of the proposed site; and, a Petition bearing signatures of a large number of people living in that area expressing disapproval of such a site is attached to this Resolution; and, WHEREAS, the West Memphis City Council disapproves of the plan to place Housing for the Elderly in the Forrest Park Apartments at Avalon Street and Ross Avenue, West Memphis, Arkansas, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST MEMPHIS, ARKANSAS, that the proposed site of Housing for the Elderly at the Forrest Park Apartments at Avalon Street and Ross Avenue, West Memphis, Arkansas, be denied; and the alternative site of Jackson Avenue between Woods and Avalon Streets be accepted; and, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be sent to the following: "` Senator Dale Bumpers, Washington, D.C.
