Councilor Pulliaum wanted to know if there was any way to develop a program and/or get some
help with ditches throughout the City that are littered with garbage and ditches that are not flowing
correctly due to culverts being too low and ditches getting filled in. Mr. Sorrell will check on
alternatives with Odell.
Sanitation Report -Rev Leroy Turner-Rev. Turner reported on the problems with dumping in the
City. He said we needed to find a solution to the problem. Councilor Coleman asked what we
could do about people who renovate and dump material on vacant lots. There was a lengthy
discussion on ways to promote community awareness that dumping is illegal. Rev. Turner
mentioned the use of camera's to catch the ones who are dumping. It was first recommended that
we find out what the penalty for dumping is, and who enforces it.
City Engineer Report - Report by Phillip Sorrell -Southland Drive from Martin Luther King back
west and Ingram Boulevard are both presently being reviewed by the State Highway Department.
We are hoping to have permission to move forward on Southland Drive in the next couple of
weeks. There is a final inspection of Glen Bailey Drive scheduled for Thursday. There were just a
few clean up items left to do. Once inspection has been approved we will proceed to close out
project. Councilor Holt asked about erosion problems on Avondale Circle around bridge on South
Side on the church property. City Engineer Phillip Sorrell will get with the Highway Department on
the problem. Councilor Holt also mentioned blocking the street at the end of Auburn. A
homeowner reported a lot of thefts in the area and people are using that route to get away
undetected. Mr. Sorrell said he would also look into this problem. Mr. Sorrell reported that we
have been going through a Community Rating System (CRS) audit through ISO. We still have a
lot of paper work to submit, but we are hoping to be able to drop our rating.
With no other business to address the meeting adjourned at 12:47 p.m.
