Odell Slaughter, Street Superintendent, reported that his department has been working on cleaning Q
drains and opening ditches. Mr. Sorrell added to the Street Department report by commending the
department for maintaining control over the flood waters from the heavy rainfall we received on ~''``'1~-
Monday. The pumps were turned on at 3:00 am. We received 5'/s" of rain within a 24 hour period.
As far as we know there was only one house evacuated during the flooding. Councilor Pulliuam
mentioned he would like to see a truck dedicated to cleaning out ditches and storm drains. He
mentioned getting help from the county jail to clean. It was also mentioned that it would help if the
Police Department would start writing citations for people blowing their grass cutting in the street.
Clogged storm drains are a major problem during flooding.
Leroy Turner, Sanitation Superintendent, his department has been cleaning the carriage ride route.
Park Street has been added to the route. Councilor Taylor said they have been doing a great job.
Mr. Sorrell reported that the Southland Drive Project is complete, but there is still some final
paperwork to complete. The Ingram Boulevard project is scheduled to start around February 15,
weather dependant. APAC-TN was the low bidder. The contract is for 45 days and is expected to be
completed around mid May. There will still be access to the dog track on the East side at all times.
Councilor Pulliaum mentioned getting together after Council, or at a Public Works meeting and getting
a form of transportation that could fit the whole council and a few department heads and take a ride to
look at each ward and see the concerns that they have in their areas.
Councilor Pulliaum made a motion to adjourn; motion was seconded by Councilor Robinson. Upon
voice vote the meeting adjourned at 12:36 pm.
