ORDINANCE NO. I ~ 15~
AN ORDINANCE FOR THE ADOPTION OF THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE,
1993 EDITION, PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS OF SUCH
REGULATIONS.
BE IT HEREBY ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST
MEMPHIS, ARKANSAS:
j SECTION 1. There is hereby adopted by the City of West
Memphis, Arkansas, pursuant to Act No. 267 of the Acts of the
General Assembly of Arkansas, 1949, for the purpose of establishing
rules and regulations governing the use of electricity for light,
heat, power, radio signaling, and for other purposes, the National
Electric Code, 1993 Edition, of which not less than three (3)
copies shall be filed in the office of the Clerk of the City of
West Memphis, Arkansas, and same are hereby adopted and
incorporated as fully as if set out at length herein and from the
date on which this Ordinance shall take effect, the provision
thereof shall be controlling within the City Limits of the City of
West Memphis, Arkansas.

~ SECTION 2. It shall be the duty of the Electrical Inspector
to see that this Code is enforced.
SECTION 3. ELECTRICAL WIRING.
(A) All electrical wiring No. 10 AWG and smaller installed in the
City of West Memphis, Arkansas, shall be copper or copper-clad
aluminum.
(B) No plain aluminum wire in these sizes shall be used.
SECTION 4. Any person, firm or corporation who shall fail to
comply with any of the provision of this Ordinance shall be guilty
of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not

more than five hundred dollars ($500.00) for any one (1) specified
offense or violation of this Ordinance, or double that sum for each
repetition of such offense or violation. If a thing prohibited or
rendered unlawful by this Ordinance is, in its nature, continuous
in respect to time, the fine or penalty for allowing the
continuance thereof, in violation of this Ordinance, shall not
exceed two hundred fifty dollars ( $250.00 ) for each day that it may
be unlawfully continued.

SECTION 5. Ordinances numbered 1354, 751, 807, 825,
of the City of West Memphis, Arkansas, and all other Ordinances or
parts of Ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
