A RESOLUTION TO ESTABLISH AN EIGHTEEN (18)DAY WORK
PERIOD WITHIN THE WEST MEMPHIS FIRE DEPARTMENT,AND
FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the Fair Labor Standards Act provides that local governments may establish
a work period ranging from seven(7) to twenty-eight(28) days applicable to fire protection
personnel; and
WHEREAS, the City of West Memphis currently has in place a nineteen(19) day work
period applicable to certain members of the West Memphis Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, the nineteen(19) day work period has created certain accounting difficulties
that could be remedied by converting to an eighteen (18)day work period; and
WHEREAS, the West Memphis Fire Commission has recommended that the work
period be changed for those employees of the West Memphis Fire Department who are currently
on a nineteen(19) day work to an eighteen(18)day work period;
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WEST MEMPHIS,ARKANSAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. Effective at the start of the first pay period following adoption of this
resolution, the work period for those employees of the West Memphis Fire Department who are
currently on a nineteen(19) day work period shall be changed to an eighteen (18) day work
period.
SECTION 2. This resolution shall be effective from and after its date of passage and
approval.
