CITY COUNCIL REQUEST OF ATTORNEY GENERAL
TO INTERVENE IN LAWSUIT AGAINST THE MAYOR
AND THE CITY COUNCIL CHALLENGING THE
CONSTITUTIONALITY OF THE CIVIL SERVICE ACT
WHEREAS , the Mayor and City Council of West Memphis ,
`' 1w Arkansas , have now been sued by certain members of the
West Memphis Police Department challenging the constitutionality
of the Civil Service Act passed by the General Assembly of
Arkansas; and,
WHEREAS , the Attorney General of the State of Arkansas
has now under advisement the question of whether they will
intervene in assisting the City of West Memphis in upholding
the constitutionality of the State Statute; and,
WHEREAS , the City Council. of City of West Memphis ,
Arkansas wishes to request the services of the Attorney
General of the State of Arkansas in this matter;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WEST MEMPHIS , ARKANSAS :
1 . That the City Council of the City of West Memphis ,
Arkansas , requests that the Attorney General of the State
of Arkansas intervene it the present lawsuit against the
Mayor and City Council by certain members of the West Memphis
Police Department;
2 . That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the
Honorable Bill Clinton, Attorney General , State of Arkansas ,
Justice Building, Little Rock, Arkansas , 72201 .
